IMG_9906MK College’s Business 200 is going from strength to strength, with LPA Commander for Milton Keynes, Superintendent Gez Chiariello speaking at this month’s event, attracting large numbers of attendees.

The networking club was established by The Business and Leadership Centre at Milton Keynes College over a year ago. The club was established to help businesses in the city, offering an opportunity to meet new people in a relaxed setting.

At this month’s event, Superintendent Gez Chiariello’s spoke about the work currently being done by Milton Keynes’ police force to build stronger relationships with the community and how those links can help reduce crime.

Gez explained that while Milton Keynes does not currently have a policy in regards to policing business-related crime, the force still works hard to maintain a positive relationship with the town’s growing economic community to understand the needs for controlling and pre-empting offences.

MK Food Bank’s Nick Brinner also spoke at the event and reflected on the greater needs of the wider community in times of austerity.

Speaking during Business 200, Nick said: “We get no statutory funding for the Food Bank, which means we have to go hat in hand to the Milton Keynes community, asking for money to help us keep our doors open.

“I’m here tonight to see if we can get employees to help by volunteering and possibly financial gifts from Milton Keynes businesses who care about their community and want to make an impact.”

Nick was also keen to highlight the benefits of working with MK College to help the Food Bank achieve its goals. He added: “The College has always been great to us and I’m not just saying that.

“I’ve worked with the College for several years in and out of what I do with the charity and they’ve always been highly supportive and a real champion in the community for the Food Bank.”

Sen Sampanthar, the CEO of retail platform provider ShopKonnect spoke too, focusing on ways in which modern consumers interact with products and firms, highlighting how retail has changed in the 21stcentury and how it may continue to evolve.

Business 200 is a monthly networking event at Milton Keynes College’s Silbury Campus, located at 200 Silbury Boulevard. Each month, the event attracts a broad cross-section of the MK business community from large, well-established companies to growing start-ups, providing attendees with a great opportunity to interact with a variety of individuals.
