Local MP’s Hard Work Pays Off As Marston Vale Line Service Returns
On Monday 19 February, Iain Stewart MP visited Bletchley Train Station to see the full resumption of the timetable for the Marston Vale Line connecting Bletchley and Bedford.
The Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes South and the Chair of the Transport Select Committee was joined by representatives from London Northwestern Railway, Friends of Bletchley Station and Marston Vale Line Community Rail Partnership as well as local residents to see the train arrive into Platform 6 and welcome onboard its first passengers of the day.
Following the return of the Marston Vale Line service, a new fare has been introduced for passengers. A single ticket now costs £1 with a return ticket costing £2, and this will be the case until 19 May 2024.
Iain Stewart MP had been lobbying the Government Minister for Rail at the Department for Transport, Huw Merriman MP, to see the return of the Marston Vale Line so that local residents who rely on the service could make use of it again as soon as possible.
One of the local MP’s priorities for 2024 is Connecting the City of Milton Keynes and seeing the return of the Marston Vale Line is progress for Iain’s Our Plan to make Milton Keynes South a better place to live, work and play for all.
Commenting, Iain Stewart MP said: “I am delighted to see the Marston Vale Line return to a full timetable today, connecting Bletchley to Bedford with various stops between the two stations.
“Over the last few months, I have continuously lobbied the Government Minister, on behalf of local residents and groups, to have the line running again because of its importance to the local community.
“In particular, I am pleased to see the £1 single fare for passengers who will again be able to utilise the train for education, employment and leisure purposes.”
