Maaya crowned ‘best Indian restaurant’ in the South East of England

On Monday 17 September, Maaya Indian Kitchen & Bar represented Milton Keynes at the 8th annual English Curry Awards 2018, held at the glamourous Copthorne Hotel, Dudley.

The independent Indian restaurant, located in The Hub in Central Milton Keynes, had been shortlisted from hundreds of entries in the Most Wanted Restaurant of the Year category following a public vote, which then saw mystery dinners visit restaurants across the region.

Out of 15 shortlisted restaurants, Maaya scooped the top prize and won, making it the ‘best Indian restaurant’ in the region, according to the prestigious English Curry Awards.

The accolade makes Maaya, which opened in 2016, a multi-award winning restaurant, having received the LUX Best Indian Restaurant in Milton Keynes Award 2018 earlier this year and was awarded the highly acclaimed ‘Shortlisted’ award at the British Curry Awards in 2017.

“We are absolutely delighted, it was a great evening attended by some of the finest restaurant owners from across the country. We were proud to be representing Milton Keynes as a shortlisted entry but to have won against such talented competition is a dream,” said Mo Abdul, manager and owner of Maaya.

The English Curry Awards aims to recognise and reward the hard work, determination and dedication of those in the country’s booming curry industry.

The lavish, black-tie awards ceremony included a drinks reception, four course meal and entertainment as well as the awards ceremony itself.

The event was run by Oceanic Consulting, the UK’s leading ethnic consulting and promotions organisation in the UK, who have recently been shortlisted at the Asian Media Awards 2017 for their work in the Marketing & PR Sector, and are responsible for some of the most successful and well known events in the country such as The English Asian Business Awards and the British Muslim Awards amongst others.

They are also responsible for putting on the Scottish Curry Awards which is now in its eleventh year as well as the recently launched London Curry Awards which took place in April and were a massive success.
